Andrea Gise first began creating her own work at The Carver Center for Arts & Technology, a magnet school in Baltimore. In 2002 her choreography was chosen by the National High School Dance Festival to be performed at Miami's New World School of the Arts. For her undergraduate studies Gise relocated to New York City, attending Marymount Manhattan College, and earning a BFA in Dance with a concentration in Choreography. While there, she studied composition under choreographer Pat Catterson. In 2006, Gise's piece "monumentality" was chosen to be part of Dance Theater Workshop's College Partnership Program, and performed at the Bessie Schoenberg Theater. Upon graduation she formed "agise & dancers", as a mode for her work. Since 2006 her company has grown to include numerous dancers and collaborative musicians. Her work has been seen at venues and festivals all over New York.
Audra Bailey grew up in Fairfield, Connecticut. She graduated from Marymount Manhattan College (Magna Cum Laude) in 2010 with a B.F.A. in Dance, through which she had the opportunity to perform works by Molissa Fenley, Susan Marshall, Anthony Ferro, and Robert Battle. Audra is so happy to be working with Andrea and the members of agise & dancers.
Katie Chakey is originally from NJ, and holds a BFA degree in Modern Dance Performance from Marymount Manhattan College. As a member of Marymount’s Dance Company, she performed the works of David Parsons, Merce Cunningham and Anthony Ferro. Since graduating, Katie participated in Austria’s ImPulzTanz, was a member of Clyde Forth Visual Theatre (NY), and Illuminations Dance Company (NYC) with whom she had the opportunity to travel to Kenya, Africa to teach the Sarakasi Dance Trust. She is currently a teacher at Flash Pointe Dance in Fairfield, CT. where she has received several choreography awards for her work.Celia DeVoe was born and raised in Roslyn, NY, where she began her training at the American Theater Dance Workshop. Ms. Devoe graduated magma cum laude with a BA in Dance, from Marymount Manhattan College. In 2006 she became one of the founding members of agise & dancers and continues to be an integral part of its creations. Professionally, Celia has danced for Julian Barnett, Ofelia Loret de Mola, Yung-Li Chen, Tina Croll and Beth Jucovy. To compliment her movement, she began training in GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® at Studio Riverside, and is a certified Gyrokinesis Instructor. She is currently on staff at STEPS on Broadway and Kinespirit Gyrotonic and Pilates studios.
Kim Machaby is a native of Cape Cod, MA. She earned her BFA in Dance from Marymount Manhattan College where she had the opportunity to perform choreography by Johannes Wieland, Denise Vale, and Pat Catterson. She is currently a member of Sue Bernhard Dance Works is a certified Pilates Instructor. She is featured in the instructional DVD "The Next Level Pilates with Erika Bloom", available in stores now.
Alexandra Rose began her dance training at the Denver School of the Arts. After studying dance and graduating with honors from Marymount Manhattan College, Mrs. Rose taught and choreographed for the Performing Arts Center of Connecticut. As a member of KDNY under the direction of Kathleen Dyer, Alexandra has performed at various venues in Connecticut, Portland, Washington DC, as well as The Fringe Festival in Scotland. Other professional work includes that with Sue Bernhard, and Tina Croll. She is a founding member of agise & dancers.
Elly Sullivan grew up in Kensington, California. She graduated with a BA in dance from UC San Diego where she performed works by Terry Wilson, Patricia Rincon and Jean Isaacs and was able to present her own choreographic pieces. In 2005 she studied dance at the Lorenzo de'Medici school in Florence, Italy. She completed the Professional Studies Program at the Limon Institute in 2009 where she had the opportunity to study/perform choreography by Sue Bernhard, Charles Weidman, Doris Humphrey and Jose Limon.
