Andrea Gise grew up in the dance studio and began exploring her choreographic voice upon exposure to modern dance at The Carver Center for Arts & Technology, a magnet school in Baltimore. While there she was influenced by Limon based modern dance, composition classes, and the visual art of her peers. In 2002 her choreography was chosen by the National High School Dance Festival to be performed at Miami's New World School of the Arts. For her undergraduate studies Gise relocated from Baltimore to her current home in New York City, attending Marymount Manhattan College and earning a BFA in Dance with a concentration in Choreography. While there, she studied composition under choreographer Pat Catterson, a seminal member of Yyonne Rainer's early and current work. In 2006, Gise's piece "monumentality" was chosen to be part of Dance Theater Workshop's College Partnership Program, and performed at the Bessie Schoenberg Theater. Upon graduation she formed Andrea Gise & Dancers, as a mode for choreographic expression. Since 2006 the group has grown to include eight dancers and many collaborative musicians. Her work has been seen at venues including American Dance Guild at Dance New Amsterdam, The CoolNY Dance Festival, The DUMBO Dance Festival, Reverb Festival at Ailey Citigroup Theater, Solar1's Solar Powered Dance Series, and more. The company premiered an evening length solo show in December 2008.
Celia DeVoe began her dance training at the American Theater Dance Workshop/Eglevsky Ballet in Long Island, NY. She graduated from Marymount Manhattan College in 2007 with a BA in Dance, concentrating in Dance Education. Celia has studied/performed works by Isadora Duncan, Paul Taylor, Helen Pickett, Ryan McNally, Vehicle Danceworks, and Beth Jucovy. Celia DeVoe is a founding member of Andrea Gise & Dancers and also dances with danscores by Ofelia Loret de Mola.
Brianna McKenna is originally from the Boston area. In May 2007 she graduated magna cum laude from Marymount Manhattan College earning a B.F.A. in Dance. Ms. McKenna toured nationally as a former member of Silver-Brown Dance Company and has also had the pleasure of performing works by Twyla Tharp, Johannes Wieland, Danny Buraczeski and Brian Brooks.
Originally from the foothills of Northern California, Lindsey Ransom started her dance studies under the direction of Yelena Holt with NUHS. In 2006 she obtained a BFA in Dance performance with a minor in Art management from Marymount Manhattan College, and was honored with the prestigious gold key award for outstanding dance performance. There she had the pleasure to perform in works by Martha Graham, Denise Vale, and Robert Battle. Since college she has been on scholarship studying with Jennifer Muller/ The Works and danced with McNally/ Knight. She is a founding member of AGise & Dancers.
Alexandra Rose grew up in Colorado where she attended The Denver School of Arts dance department, under the direction of Michael O'Banion. Ms. Rose received a BFA in modern dance from Marymount Manhattan, where she had the opportunity to present several of her own choreographic works. Since graduating in 2006 Ms. Rose has had the opportunity to perform with Sue Bernhard, Tina Croll, Kathleen Dyer and is now a company member of KDNY. She is a founding member of Andrea Gise & Dancers.
